Our Story

Prison Transport Group grew from a small group of compassionate people who saw the difficulties faced by the families of prisoners trying desperately to maintain contact with their family member ‘on the inside’. Without transport of their own, it was impossible for families and friends of prisoners to keep in touch.

IN THE YEAR 1978...

This beginning was in 1978. This core of people befriended the families, transporting them in their own cars. They raised money to cover costs and kept in touch with families by letter. These gestures of support were very much appreciated by the struggling families.

FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS

The breakdown of family relationships was common, even inevitable, and often irretrievable due to the hardship of visiting. Transfers to outlying prisons were frequently the breaking factor. The organisation was incorporated in 1985, and in 2018 PTG celebrated 40 years of continuous service to the families of prisoners.
